Discontent was simmering on Indiana University’s flagship campus long before the first tent went up in Dunn Meadow, the vast green space beside the student union in Bloomington. Earlier in the academic year, faculty members and graduate students voted no confidence in the university president. The cancellation of a Palestinian artist’s exhibition and the suspension of a pro-Palestinian student organization’s faculty sponsor drew backlash. But it was only in the last week, as a national wave of pro-Palestinian encampments reached Indiana, that a year defined by tension erupted into crisis. “These guys are not able to lead in crisis,” he said of the university’s top leaders.

(CNN) — There’s a lot of talk about luxury’s rising prices, but it’s at auction that fashion is selling for the most eye-popping of sums. Fashion items from the sets of TV, film and even commercials can also garner high prices. Frank Augstein/APWhile selling prices are widely publicized, auction houses maintain something akin to attorney-client privilege when it comes to the identities of their bidders. In fact, much of the archival fashion seen on stars today has passed through auction. “That dress would now sell for $10 million because of that double whammy connection of a celebrity,” said Nolan.

London CNN —A work contract signed by Diana Spencer two years before she married the then-Prince of Wales is expected to fetch thousands of dollars at auction. The document was filled out in black ink by the young woman who would go on to become world famous as Princess Diana. The job contract, believed to be Princess Diana’s first, was filled out when she was just 17. The document, which is expected to sell for up to $10,000, is thought to be the late princess’ first official work contract. This contract is one of the last remaining snapshots of Diana’s life before she was thrust into the spotlight.

Americans have always loved a royal scandal, even a smidgen more than British royalists do themselves. Lately, however, the British royals have been given the same reality-star treatment every microcelebrity in America attracts. Prince Andrew’s close ties with the since convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his own accusations of sexual abuse. And a massively popular Netflix series swanned in, dramatizing these and other ignoble ordeals, ready to sully the gleam before watchful eyes. In January, Catherine, Princess of Wales, as she is officially known, stepped back from royal duties with a dissatisfyingly vague and brief announcement from Kensington Palace.

With her mop of red Renaissance curls and steely ambition, Brooks became the favorite lieutenant of Rupert Murdoch. But the moral is about amorality; the story underscores the viciousness and lack of decency of the British tabloids in the hacking scandal. I thought of that when I watched the video of Princess Kate sitting on a bench amid daffodils, telling her heartbreaking story of a cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy. Cancer is a very personal thing, and how you tell your children is the most personal of all. Princess Diana’s sons blame that ravenous behemoth for hounding their mother.

William, the Prince of Wales, will attend the Diana Legacy Awards ceremony in London, where he is expected to give a speech marking the charity’s 25th anniversary, according to Kensington Palace. A video message from his brother Harry, the Duke of Sussex, will also be broadcast – but after William has left the event, PA Media reported, citing local press. The Diana Legacy Awards are held every other year, and recognize young leaders in the name of William and Harry’s late mother, Diana. Trace back the digitally altered photograph of Catherine, Princess of Wales, and its roots lie in a tragedy of another Princess of Wales, Diana, whose death in 1997 predated the creation of Facebook by nearly seven years. Diana’s fatal car accident, after a high-speed pursuit by photographers in Paris, left a lasting imprint on her sons, William and Harry. They grew up vowing not to take part in what they viewed as a pathological relationship between the royal family and the press, one in which they were the abused partners. The rise of social media gave this younger generation of royals a way to bypass the tabloids they reviled, with popular platforms like Instagram and Twitter, where they could post carefully curated news and images of themselves, unmediated by the London papers or the lurking paparazzi. But now they are experiencing the darker side of public life in the wild west of the web.

Sonny was born with a congenital malformation that impaired his brain development and needs near continuous care simply to breathe and eat. Ms. Poynter left her job at a call center when she brought him home from the hospital and has nursed him ever since rather than relying on aides or institutions. Indiana’s Medicaid program has paid her for this labor of love. During the coronavirus pandemic, states received a huge infusion of federal money — money that’s now drying up, leaving Indiana, and many other states, facing tough choices about how to plug the gaping holes in their budgets.

CNN —Indiana’s ban on transition care for minors can take effect, an appeals court ruled Tuesday, issuing a stay on the district court’s ruling that blocked parts of the law last summer. The ruling from the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in Chicago ordered the preliminary injunction from the district court in June 2023 to be stayed – meaning the law will take effect immediately. Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita, a Republican, applauded the ruling in an audio statement shared with CNN. “Following the court’s order yesterday, Indiana’s common-sense law is now enforceable again,” Rokita said. “Meaning that we’re going to be banning dangerous and irreversible gender transition procedures for minors.

Sandringham, the private home of the last six British monarchs, sits amid parkland, gardens and working farms about 110 miles (180 kilometers) north of London. This history has made Sandringham a special place for Charles and his entire family. One of the most famous stately homes in Britain, Sandringham sits on an 8,000-hectare (20,000-acre) estate in Norfolk on the eastern coast of England. On the day he died, George reportedly spent the afternoon on the estate with his dogs and a gun. When he was at Cambridge, Charles would often invite friends to spend weekends with him enjoying the shooting at Sandringham.

Despite all the scandals and tragedies, the royal lifestyle in “The Crown” looked enviably lavish. During six seasons, Queen Elizabeth II rode around London in a golden carriage, pulled by six horses. For most viewers, watching the show, which ended in December, was the closest they could get to the trappings of royal life. Those include two porcelain corgis that appeared on the queen’s writing desk ($380) and the Queen Mother’s drinks tray and champagne swizzle stick ($101). The version of the revenge dress that Elizabeth Debicki wears on “The Crown” has an estimated lot price of $10,000 to $15,000 in the Bonhams sale.

The jury ruled last week that the egg producers used various means to limit the domestic supply of eggs to increase the price of products during the 2000s. The damages verdict was reached Friday in the Northern District of Illinois. According to federal antitrust law, the damages are automatically tripled, bringing the total to over $53 million. Court documents on the verdict were not readily available Friday evening, but statements from the manufacturers' attorney and one of the egg producers confirmed a total of about $17.7 million. Email messages sent to the United Egg Producers and United States Egg Marketers representatives were not immediately returned Friday.

Melody and Jeremiah McKay had never heard of Carmel, Ind., before they read about it online. At the time, they were living in a roughly 1,000-square-foot home in Los Angeles County with their four children, and looking for a more affordable area. They filled out an online survey that recommended several places around the country, including Indiana’s Hamilton County, about 30 miles north of Indianapolis. When the McKays googled the area, they found a lot of press on the small city of Carmel, said Jeremiah, 39, a 3D artist.

CNN —A ruff-collared, pale pink blouse Princess Diana wore in a 1981 engagement portrait is expected to fetch up to $100,000 when it goes up for auction next month. Diana wore the blouse while posing for a portrait taken by Lord Snowdon that several magazines and newspapers, including Vogue, used when her engagement to the then Prince Charles (later King Charles III) was announced. After the blouse was worn by Diana, the designer held onto it until she sold it in 2010. Another of Diana’s outfits, an evening dress she wore in public twice, is expected to sell for up to $200,000 at the same auction. Other items in the auction include memorabilia used or worn by some of Hollywood’s biggest stars in the 1950s and 1960s.

Here Scobie picks up with the death of Queen Elizabeth II, questioning whether her hapless eldest son and his heirs have what it takes to run the family business. “Tone-deaf, racist and financially reckless” are three charges hurled at the monarchy, “but when Queen Elizabeth II was at the helm she managed to keep much of it at bay,” he writes. Over the course of her umpteen-year reign the queen earned a certain amount of good will for herself and “the Institution,” largely because her silence and inscrutability read as comparatively dignified. Scobie cites falling approval ratings (down to 47 percent after the publication of Prince Harry’s “Spare”) and a smattering of protesters waving “Not My King” signs at Charles’s public engagements. These days, warts-and-all tell-alls seem to be as integral to the Windsor brand as weddings, jubilees and blockbuster funerals.

English Heritage, an organization that manages more than 400 historic buildings, monuments and sites in England, has discovered that a portrait dating back almost four centuries was later altered to “improve” the subject’s appearance. The portrait before the added changes were removed by the conservation team English HeritageConservators have now revealed the true face of noblewoman Diana Cecil, after spending hours removing changes to her features. Cecil (1596–1654), was the great-granddaughter of William Cecil, Lord Burghley, one of Elizabeth I’s closest friends and advisers. The restored version of the portrait will go on display in London from November 30. Christopher Ison//English HeritageAccording to English Heritage, Cecil was “one of the great beauties of the age” but the full-length painting was found to have undergone some cosmetic alterations since it was painted in the 17th century.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — An Illinois jury ruled this week that several major egg producers conspired to limit the U.S.'s supply of eggs in order to raise prices in a lawsuit first filed 12 years ago. The suppliers include the family company of an Indiana egg farmer running for the U.S. Senate in the state. Attorneys for the four egg suppliers named in the lawsuit did not immediately return phone messages on Wednesday. Other food manufacturers joining as plaintiffs in the lawsuit against the egg producers are General Mills, Inc. and Nestle USA, Inc. The jury found the egg suppliers who participated in the conspiracy were Cal-Maine Foods, Inc., United Egg Producers, Inc., United States Egg Marketers, Inc. and Rose Acre Farms, Inc., a southern Indiana-based company previously chaired by John Rust.

CNN —The most anticipated season of “The Crown” has arrived, and no one’s losing much sleep over the Queen this time. One of the many things that captivated viewers when “The Crown” arrived in 2016 was its cinematic scale. The lines between episodes one and three of season six, by contrast, are impossible to draw. As “The Crown” tells it, Al-Fayed’s relentless campaign to see his son Dodi and Diana engaged and thus secure British citizenship is almost as culpable for their deaths as the crash itself. Diana’s final night in Paris is rendered as the fatal culmination of Al-Fayed’s engineering of their relationship, and his pressure on Dodi to propose.
